You may get an innate sense of the familiar when you carry the Mono Grocer Bag Original. Yet in this instance, familiarity does not breed contempt. Inspired by a supermarket shopper shape, the bag sits neatly over the shoulder and under the arm as an understated piece that is refined yet practical. With its contrasting flat straps in ‘White Wash’ leather that are the perfect drop length, it has all the hallmarks of A-ESQUE’S artisanal craftsmanship and something I’ve come to expect from a piece that’s handmade. I carry the Mono Grocer with equal love in jeans and trainers or the other predominantly black, white and navy uniforms in my wardrobe as it easily transcends the high-low style of dressing I favour. The bag fits a laptop, notebook and other things I transport around on any given day and is at home when going to work, with enough room to fit a couple things in for dinner on the way home. It’s no accident Black and White makes an impact, just ask Truman Capote who knew the power of those two colours when he hosted his Black & White Ball back in 1966.
